Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey was on the bench last night.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has admitted to the club’s official website that he has been impressed with teenager Jacob Ramsey, hence his place on the bench last night.
Villa travelled down to Griffin Park on Wednesday night to take on Brentford, with Smith making his first trip to his former club.
Albert Adomah squandered a great chance for Villa in the first half, and Villa were made to pay as Neal Maupay struck a late winner.
Maupay beat Tommy Elphick and Tyrone Mings to score, sending the ball into the top corner in the dying stages of the game to seal a narrow win.
It’s now just one win in the last eight Championship games for Villa, but if one promising thing came out of last night’s defeat, it was the inclusion of Ramsey on the bench.
The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been making waves in Villa’s youth ranks this season, hitting nine goals and two assists in 17 games.
Ramsey didn’t get off the bench, but his inclusion around the first team will give fans hope that he can kick on and become a first-team regular under Smith.
After the game, Smith admitted that he thinks Ramsey has ‘done very well’, and with a number of injury problems in the squad, he decided to reward him with a place on the bench.
“He’s done very well,” said Smith. “We are a little bit low on numbers with the injuries we’ve got. But he’s impressed and he’s deserved his place in there,” he added.
