Aston Villa won their first match with Dean Smith in charge 1-0 at the weekend.
Smith is renowned for his passing style, which encourages his team to show creativity on the ball.
However, the first thing he has worked on at Villa has been their pressing game.
The Villans were far more aggressive in their pressing during Smith’s first game in charge, which they won 1-0 against Swansea City.
And Smith believes that Grealish will have been shocked to be doing so much off the ball work under his stewardship already.
He said: “Jack probably saw me coming and thought ‘Brentford are a total footballing team’ yet all the work last week has been without the ball!
“He has seen a different side. But that is part of his game that needs to get better.”
Smith’s winning start at Villa was achieved thanks to a goal from Tammy Abraham.
The new claret and blues’ boss’s influence was already clear, with Villa fans now optimistic for the weeks ahead.
Villa are next in action on Tuesday evening, when they take on Norwich City at Carrow Road.
