Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has offered his thoughts on Tammy Abraham following reported interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has confirmed that he is expecting Tammy Abraham ‘to be in training on Monday’ and doesn’t think he has played his last game for the club.
Sky Sports reported on Saturday that Wolves are close to signing the 21-year-old on loan from Chelsea, with the youngster currently playing in the Championship for promotion-chasers Villa.
It is said that Nuno Espirito’s side were keen on a permanent deal for the in-form attacker but his parent club are unwilling to part ways with their player in that manner.
After Villa were comfortably beaten 3-0 at home to Swansea City in the FA Cup, Smith offered his thoughts on Abraham’s future and made this claim about the player.
“I don’t think so [played his last game for the club],” Smith told BBC Radio WM as posted on their official Twitter account. “Tammy was in training yesterday and I believe he came to the game today or he said he was coming to the game.
“I haven’t seen him but as far as I am aware I would be the first one to know and I have heard no different. So, I fully expect him to be in training on Monday.”
Abraham was not part of the Villa squad that was knocked out of the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, with a number of senior players rested, including James Chester, Conor Hourihane and Yannick Bolasie.
Instead, Scott Hogan played up front for Smith’s side, with Jonathan Kodjia coming off the bench in the second half as Villa switched to two up top.
During his time in the Midlands, Abraham has been prolific in front of goal, finding the back of the net on 16 occasions during this campaign.
The London-born player scored four goals against Nottingham Forest earlier on in the season and netted a brace during his last outing against QPR.
