Christian Eriksen has just one year left on his Spurs contract but would Daniel Levy really sell to a direct Premier League rival in Liverpool?

Forget Phillipe Coutinho.
If Dean Saunders was in charge of transfers, Liverpool would be pushing to snatch Christian Eriksen from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur rather than bringing back at player who handed in a transfer request to force a move away from Anfield just last year.
Speculation is rife that Coutinho could be on his way back to Liverpool, tail between his legs and suitably humbled.
The Brazilian has discovered, surprise surprise, that replacing Andres Iniesta at Barcelona is easier said than done. The Camp Nou faithful have turned on their £142 million record signing for the crime of being not quite as good as arguably the greatest playmaker of the 21st century, boos cascading down from the stands after every misplaced pass or sliced shot.
That is the harsh reality of life in Catalonia.
So would former Liverpool striker Saunders welcome Coutinho back with a warm embrace? Not exactly.
With Christian Eriksen’s contract at Spurs expiring next summer, the Welshman wants Liverpool to snap up a Danish international instead while weakening a direct Premier League rival.

“I think Eriksen could slot into Liverpool’s team” Saunders told the Alan Brazil Sports’ Breakfast on talkSPORT (19 July, 7:00am).
“That type of player, someone who could make their midfield more productive.”
Eriksen, like Coutinho, wasn’t quite at his brilliant best in a difficult 2019. But he still showed glimpses of his game-changing quality as Spurs reached the Champions League final for the first time, particularly in that thrilling quarter-final second-leg against Manchester City.
And with Real Madrid seemingly putting all their eggs in the Paul Pogba basket, it looks increasingly likely that Eriksen will be staying in north London for one more year just weeks after his announced his desire for a ‘new challenge’ (The Guardian).
The Standard claim that Spurs want £60 million for their midfield general.
