Leicester are looking for a new manager after sacking Craig Shakespeare, could Sheffield United’s appeal?

Crawley manager Dean Saunders looks on proir to the Sky Bet League One match between Crawley Town and Coventry City at The Checkatrade.com Stadium on May 3, 2015 in Crawley, West Sussex.

Dean Saunders believes Chris Wilder, his former Sheffield United teammate, could manage Leicester City.

Wilder is hunting his third straight promotion, having led Northampton Town and Sheffield United out of Leagues Two and One respectively.

His Blades side are currently third in the Championship, having won nine of their first 13 games back in the second tier.

But despite his ongoing success, Wilder’s name is yet to be seriously mentioned in contention with the vacant Leicester manager’s job.

Chris Wilder manager of Sheffield United looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield United and Barnsley at Bramall Lane on August 19, 2017 in Sheffield, England.

The 2015/16 Premier League champions disposed of Craig Shakespeare last week, little over four months after they appointed him on a three-year contract.

And speaking to Talksport on Monday morning (11:53), Saunders said: “Why’s [Wilder] not got mentioned for the Leicester job? He’s not flamboyant enough?”

He later added: “People can’t keep ignoring Chris Wilder. If you go back to his Oxford results and then Northampton, them results. Over the last three or four years he’s got an unbelievable amount of wins.”

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Luton Town and Leicester City at Kenilworth Road on July 26, 2017 in Luton, England.

Saunders played with Wilder, a lifelong Sheffield United supporter, during the 50-year-old’s second spell as a player at Bramall Lane.

Like Wilder, Saunders dropped down to non-league to begin his coaching career, before going on to manage Doncaster Rovers, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crawley Town and Chesterfield at Football League level.

Should Leicester look at Wilder? Would he leave Sheffield United?
