Dean Saunders shares his thoughts on Wolverhampton Wanderers rise since his days at the club

Wolverhampton Wanderers are thriving under the management of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Dean Saunders has stated that it is ‘unbelievable’ how well Wolves are doing since his days of managing the club when they suffered relegation to League One in 2013.

During the summer of 2017, the club opted to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as the manager and they have not looked back, winning promotion to the Premier League last summer.

At this moment in time, they are sitting in the top seven in England’s top-flight and are in the quarter-final stages of the FA Cup, with a home tie against Manchester United awaiting them.

Speaking on the Final Word on talkSPORT (17/02/2019), this is what Saunders had to say about the club when told by a fan that they have come a long way in a short space of time since he was in charge:

“Unbelievable. You have got a good manager, [who is] Portuguese. A Portuguese agent, who has slid the best players he could get into the club. You have a style of football where everybody likes watching. You have carried it into the Premier League.

“Skilfull, tricky players, who can create something out of nothing. You have a good centre-forward there as well. And everyone is pulling in the same direction again at the club. The boats going in the same direction.”

Wolves have come a long way since their days in the third tier of English football and they will be hoping to potentially break into Europe and beyond in these coming seasons.

Nuno has installed an attractive and forward-thinking style of play at the Midlands outfit, which has played a huge part in their success since he walked through the doors at Molineux.

Added with that, their transfer incomings have also been a huge success, with Raul Jiminez currently leading the line and midfielder Ruben Neves a firm fan favourite as he orchestrates play in the middle of the park.

A top-seven finish is realistically on the cards for Wolves this season and they will also be looking to prove their worth once again when they take on Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
