Everton will be looking to secure a top-seven finish at the end of the Premier League season.
Dean Saunders has claimed that Gylfi Sigurdsson has been Everton’s only consistent performer this season following their 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
The talkSPORT pundit also seemingly suggested that Sigurdsson’s style of play doesn’t look ‘pretty’, but he is the best player out of the Premier League’s top-six.
Sigurdsson scored and assisted at the weekend as Marco Silva’s side recorded a deserved win over Champions League-chasing United.
Speaking to the Final Word on talkSPORT (21/04/2019 at 6:40 pm), former Aston Villa striker Saunders spoke about Sigurdsson’s qualities as a player.
“I think you asked me, ‘who is the best player outside of the top-six? And I said Sigurdsson,” Saunders told talkSPORT. “Someone said Zaha, I said Sigurdsson. 14 goals again he’s got. Assists are always in double figures.
“He doesn’t look, pretty, pretty, but he can finish and smell a goal. He’s the shining light for them all season. He’s been the only one that has kept his form together.
“Richarlison has gone in and out of form. Bernard has gone in and out of form. A bit lightweight at time. Walcott’s gone missing for half a dozen games. But he’s the only one that has kept his form up.”
In recent weeks, Everton has beaten Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United at Goodison Park, but they have then shown their inconsistencies by losing at already-relegated Fulham.
During all those positive performances and results there is no doubt that Sigurdsson has been a key figure in the middle of the park for his side.
Over the course of the campaign, he has played 35 league games for the Toffees, scoring 13 goals and supplying his teammates with five assists [transfermarkt].
