Is Aston Villa’s John Terry good enough for Arsenal? Dean Saunders reckons so.
Speaking to The Star, Dean Saunders has praised Aston Villa for the signing of John Terry – and admits he’s surprised that Arsenal didn’t go in for him.
Aston Villa made arguably the most impressive signing of any Championship side this summer by luring the Chelsea legend to Villa Park.
The 36-year-old, who won five Premier League titles and a Champions League crown in West London, joined Steve Bruce’s side on a 12-month deal.

Terry only managed six league starts last term as the Blues won a first title under Antonio Conte, but Aston Villa legend Saunders believes the veteran centre-back is “nowhere near finished” and says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger should’ve gone in for him.
“Forget Lukaku going to Manchester United – Villa signing John Terry on a free is the deal of the summer,” he told The Star. “It’s a bigger signing. It’s the best signing. If I was the manager of any of the top six in the Premier, I would have signed him.”
“For me, that just shows you what must have been said behind the scenes by Steve and the owners to get him. John must have thought ‘I’ll have a bit of this.’
“He’s nowhere near finished. If I was Arsene Wenger, I would have signed him. I know he wouldn’t have gone there because he didn’t want to play against Chelsea, but you get the point.”
Terry had spent his entire career at Stamford Bridge and reportedly had reservations over joining another Premier League club due to the conflict he feels would have arose when it came time to face his former side.
