Kieran Trippier had one to forget for Tottenham Hotspur on the weekend against Leroy Sane.
Dean Saunders has told talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show, broadcast on December 18, that he felt sorry for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier in Saturday’s 4-1 demolition at Manchester City.
The Spurs right-back endured a nightmare against City star Leroy Sane, who set the tone for the kind of evening that Trippier was going to have by skinning him inside the first minute.
The German winger ended up bagging two assists but it could’ve been more, such was his dominance of the Tottenham defender, but Saunders says that the former Burnley man can draw solace from knowing that Sane is a “super, superstar”.
He told talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast show, broadcast on December 18: “I have to say, Sane, on the other side of the pitch, tore Kieran Trippier to shreds. For 25 minutes I felt sorry for him.
“I thought ‘they’ve gotta adjust it and stop the service going out there’ but he just kept going and got to the byline. He’s going to be a super, superstar.”
The pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino to drop Trippier and replace him with Serge Aurier.
As good as Sane was, Trippier has had his fair share of awful games this season and it’s probably time that the Ivory Coast right-back was given regular chances.
He has been limited to the Champions League so far but Trippier’s woes on Saturday surely indicate that the former Paris Saint-Germain man will come in soon.
