Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson may look to leave the club in 2022 with Newcastle Untied believed to be interested.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claims that Henderson isn’t happy with his playing time at Old Trafford this season.
Henderson has played just once in all competitions, and that was in the Carabao Cup against West Ham United.
David De Gea is first-choice stopper this season and it’s hard to see Henderson breaking in any time soon.
Henderson is now keen to leave at the end of the season having been left out of the England squad.
The 24-year-old is contracted to United until 2026 though, and earns a huge £120,000-a-week, meaning he won’t be easy to sign.
Newcastle keen on Henderson
The report adds that Newcastle are an option for Henderson in the January window if he pushes to leave.
United don’t want Henderson to go in the middle of the season though, meaning a move to St James’ Park may not happen.
Henderson has shown that he is a quality goalkeeper having excelled on loan at Sheffield United, but a move to Newcastle seems strange.
Newcastle already have a number of goalkeepers; Karl Darlow, Martin Dubravka, Freddie Woodman and Mark Gillespie will all be competing for one spot.
Amid links to Thomas Strakosha too, maybe Newcastle think they can upgrade the goalkeeping spot in Eddie Howe’s team.
Henderson could do that, but prising him away from United in the coming months could be difficult.
