Dean Ashton thinks that West Ham will play better once the injured players return to the side.

Ex-West Ham United striker Dean Ashton thinks that manager Slaven Bilic should be given more time at West Ham despite the dreadful start of the season.

West Ham have started the season with three losses, conceding 10 goals in the process. What is more worrying though is they have conceded 6 goals against a goal-shy Southampton outfit and newly promoted Newcastle side.

According to reports in the Mirror, Slaven Bilic has been handed four games to turn around his fortunes at West Ham. However, former England international Dean Aston thinks otherwise.

In an interview with talkSPORT he said, “I don’t think that’s fair. When you bring in new signings you’ve got to be given time to bed them in, and that means more than six or seven games.

“They do look very poor defensively, and their organisation has also been very poor – he [Bilic] switches from a four to a three quite regularly as if he’s not quite sure about his starting line-up at the back.

“But once he gets his injured players back – Manuel Lanzini, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll will make a huge difference to the starting XI. He should be given a little bit more time.”

Although it is fair to say that sacking a manager three games into the season will be a curious decision whatever the results, Bilic is undoubtedly under immense pressure. Many touted West Ham to be the dark horses in the Premier League given the nature of their signings, and the caliber of the players already at the club.

Bottom of the League is certainly not a clear reflection of the potential of the squad. A lot of the blame understandably has to land at the feet of Bilic, but the players have underperformed massively as well.

The international break has probably come at the right time for the Hammers, and Bilic needs to regather his thoughts and start accumulating points when the season resumes. Otherwise, the voices calling for his head will keep getting louder and louder.
