Manchester United reportedly want Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Former West Ham United striker Dean Ashton suggested on the Jim White show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 10am, July 24, 2017) that Tottenham Hotspur should sell Eric Dier if they get £40 million for him.

Dier is one of the best footballers in the Premier League and is an important player for North London club Tottenham.

The England international is a versatile footballer who can operate as a defender or as a defensive midfielder.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move away from Spurs in the summer transfer window, with The Guardian reporting earlier this month that Manchester United want him.

Sky Sports presenter Jim White recently claimed on social networking site Twitter that a source close to Dier has said that United have made a £40 million bid for Dier.

Former West Ham striker Ashton has suggested that if Tottenham get £40m for the former Sporting Lisbon player, then they should sell him.

“I would do, yeah,” said Ashton on the Jim White show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 10am, July 24, 2017) when asked if he would sell Dier for £40m.

“I think that’s unbelievable money for a holding midfielder. I know he is versatile and he has done very well for Spurs, but he doesn’t get in their best XI. He doesn’t get in their best XI.”

Tottenham finished second in the Premier League last season and will be aiming to challenge for the league title during the 2017-18 campaign.
