Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United recorded a deserved win over Swansea City on Wednesday night.
Quest pundit Dean Ashton has praised the ‘valuable’ performance of Ezgjan Alioski amid ‘talk’ about the injured Barry Douglas coming back into the starting XI.
The 27-year-old has been deployed at left-back in recent weeks and he produced a magnificent performance to help his side beat Swansea City 2-1 at Elland Road on Wednesday night.
Pontus Jansson and Jack Harrison got on the scoresheet for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with Alioski providing the duo with the pinpoint delivery for both goals.
Nonetheless, after the match, former West Ham striker Ashton singled out Alioski for his performance as he named goalscorer Harrison as his Man of the Match.
“He [Alioski] was valuable tonight,” Ashton told EFL on Quest on 13/02/2019 at 10:50 pm. “There has been talk about Barry Douglas coming back in at left-back, but he has stuck with Alioski.
“And what a delivery for Jack Harrison, who was arguably the Man of the Match in the game with a great header. But Alioski played well.”
It was a big result for Leeds because they now overtake second-placed Norwich City in the Championship table, which further boosts their chances of earning promotion to the Premier League.
Daniel Farke’s side suffered a damaging defeat at Preston North End, with third-placed Sheffield United two points behind and on their coat-tails.
It has been a pretty long wait for the Leeds supporters in making a return to the promised land, but since Bielsa’s appointment, the belief of a possible return has been higher than ever.
The Championship is now in its crunch period where bad results or positive results could see you drop down the table with ease or push further up and cause havoc.
Nonetheless, over the course of the season, Alioski has played 32 league games for his side, scoring five goals and supplying six assists for his teammates, according to transfermarkt.
