Newcastle United were interested in signing Renan Lodi a little earlier this summer.
It was reported a couple of months ago that the Atletico Madrid defender had decided to join the St James’s Park outfit following speculation about a transfer to Tyneside.
The trail went cold and more recently, any hope Newcastle had was probably dashed by the theory that Manchester City had entered the race.
According to The Telegraph, Pep Guardiola is interested in the Brazilian.
But Fabrizio Romano might have some good news for Newcastle, if they’re still interested.
That’s because the Italian journalist has revealed that actually, the Sky Blues have no current intention on bringing the player to the Etihad Stadium any longer, stating the ‘deal is off’.

And if Eddie Howe is keen, well that’s a major boost.
If City were interested then Newcastle’s prospects would’ve been ever so bleak, given that Guardiola has the best squad in the Premier League at his disposal, the like of which any player would love to be part of.
However, Romano’s tweet about the Citizens not being in the equation makes things drastically less complicated for United if they renew an interest in the 24-year-old between now and the end of the transfer window.
Howe and Saudi Public Investment Fund might’ve moved on from Lodi regardless but, if not, this development is certainly positive from their perspective.
