Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Michael Brown has been discussing Roberto Firmino after it was widely reported on Friday that he’ll be leaving Liverpool.

Firmino is reportedly set to leave the Reds at the end of his contract in the summer, and Brown has queried why this news has come out at this moment in time.

Brown has a theory as to why this is being reported right now, and he believes that Firmino may have already agreed a deal to sign for another club, hence why the reports of a Liverpool exit are starting to emerge.

Firmino has already agreed to leave

Brown gave his theory on the Firmino news and the timing.

“I think I look at it and say why have they announced it now? Why is that news coming out right now? Is it a club out of England that he’s agreed a deal with? Have the club told him that they will not offer him a deal? I think there’ll be a lot of Premier League clubs who want to take him, and when it comes to a head this early it generally seems that you have a deal in place,” Brown said.

Strange timing

Whether or not Firmino has agreed to sign for another club at this point is unclear, but it does have to be said that the timing of this news is strange.

This news has come just days before a huge game between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield, and, in all honesty, it’s an unnecessary distraction ahead of one of the biggest games of the season.

These stories are often leaked at certain times for a reason, and Brown may be right, Firmino could already have a deal in place to sign for someone else.
