Two years after replacing Kristoffer Nordfeldt at Eredivisie giants Heerenveen, Erwin Mulder could repeat the trick at Swansea City.

Any goalkeeper making the move to Swansea City should know that he faces a mammoth task forcing his way into the starting XI.

After all, Lukas Fabianski has missed just three Premier League fixtures since cementing himself as the club’s undisputed first-choice following a 2014 move from Arsenal.

Yet, it is fair to say the back-up options leave plenty to be desired. Which perhaps explains why Swansea have signed Heerenveen goalkeeper Erwin Mulder.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper, who has never played outside of the Netherlands, moved to South Wales on Thursday to put the finishing touches on a deal that will earn him a huge wage increase.

The report adds that, when Mulder signed for Heerenveen in 2015, he negotiated a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free if he was offered a deal elsewhere. Therefore, Swansea have nabbed one of the Eredivisie’s most reliable custodians without having to spend a single penny in transfer fees.

Not you again

Swansea are certainly in need of reinforcements for the goalkeeping department after Mark Birighitti and the long-serving Gerhard Tremmel departed at the end of the previous campaign.

Ironically, Mulder could replace Kristoffer Nordfeldt, who told Wales Online he would welcome a move away from the club, as Paul Clement’s number two option at the Liberty Stadium.

Mulder arrived at Heerenveen to replace the Swedish international when he put pen to paper with Swansea in 2015 and he could now follow his predecessor to Britain.
