Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford seemed unimpressed by the Bundesliga return today.
Germany’s top flight got back underway following a two-month hiatus due to the ongoing global health crisis.
However, they were behind-closed-doors games, meaning that all of the teams were playing inside empty stadiums.
This is relevant to Leeds because we still don’t know whether the English Football League are going to resume the Championship under the same circumstances, with the Whites top of the table.
Elland Road has been a fortress for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, with the Leeds fans famous for drumming up an intimidating atmosphere for the opposition side.
And Bamford, £10 million signing in 2018 [BBC Sport], has said that it’ll be ‘dead without fans’ inside the ground.
Bamford is right in saying that Leeds games wouldn’t be the same without their support, but there’s a bigger picture here.
The West Yorkshire club have been absent from the Premier League for 16 years and although the fans would be gutted to miss out on experiencing the promotion at Elland Road, the important thing is that they do indeed go up.
