De’Aaron Fox could not hide his admiration for how the San Antonio Spurs approached the game, even with Victor Wembanyama out of action.
An early-season injury to Victor Wembanyama has put the San Antonio Spurs in a difficult spot.
Wembanyama suffered a calf strain, which is among the more serious short-term injuries in the NBA right now. Because of it, he has been forced to miss time on the court.
Without him available, De’Aaron Fox was tasked with stepping up and taking on a bigger role for San Antonio – but it took him some time to find his rhythm offensively.
But over time, he grew into that role and found ways to lead the team.
De’Aaron Fox backs Spurs roster despite Victor Wembanyama’s absence

Fox spoke to the press following the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers, sharing his thoughts on how the team responded without Wembanyama.
While the Frenchman is an important part of their line-up, the guard insisted that the Spurs have a good enough squad to respond when someone goes down.
Fox said: “I already said it before. We have a team! Obviously, Victor is a big part of that team. He’s a big piece to us, and we think he’s one of the best players in the world. At the end of the day, we have a team.
“And when you have a team that’s been put together the way we are and have the bond that we do, you come out, when a guy is down… multiple guys step up!”
De’Aaron Fox proving to be an important player for San Antonio Spurs
While Fox’s move to the San Antonio Spurs was initially seen as a strong addition, his role became uncertain after the Spurs secured the #2 overall pick.
A lot of people thought that after picking up Dylan Harper, giving Fox a max deal would get in the way of Harper’s growth.
The Spurs still gave Fox a $229 million deal over the summer and so far, it looks like a good move.
Through nine games this season, he is putting up 25 points, 6.3 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game. If he keeps it up and the wins follow, an All-Star nod could easily be in the cards.
