Tottenham Hotspur have been linked to Mattijs De Ligt.
It will set Spurs back a lofty fee of around £50 million to sign the teenager, who is already a senior Netherlands international.
Barcelona are also said to be keen, but neither side will have it easy.
Just last month Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars made clear the club are not keen to cash in.
Also referencing Justin Kluivert, he told De Telegraaf: He said: “We want Matthijs to stay. They are both very young to leave.”
Overmars made similar comments last summer about Davinson Sanchez, before later relenting and cashing in, as Spurs paid a club record £42 million.
But this deal was made possible by Sanchez going on strike, and forcing Ajax into accepting a move.
Unlike Sanchez who had just been at Ajax a year, De Ligt came through their academy, and will have more loyalty towards the Dutch club in the same way Harry Kane does to Spurs.
Quizzed about his future just yesterday, De Ligt gave no indication he is preparing to leave.
De Ligt said to De Telegraaf: “I actually find it funny that everyone sees it like this. No idea, I am still in the title battle right now, I am fully focused on that. That is the most important thing right now.”
