Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Ryan Gauld at Ibrox this summer, while Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Arsenal are also claimed to be interested in the Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder.
TEAMtalk reported last week that Ibrox outfit Rangers and Premier League trio Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal all are keen on securing the services of the 22-year-old.
It was reported that the former Dundee United attacking midfielder could be available, but Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has stated that the youngster will be part of the first team next season.
Sinisa Mihajlovic has been appointed as the new Sporting head coach, and De Carvalho has said that Gauld, who spent the past season on loan at Alves, will be part of the first team for the 2018-19 campaign.
The Scottish Sun quotes De Carvalho as saying: “Ryan Gauld and three other players who were out on loan will return to the first-team squad and will have an important part to play under the new manager.”
No big blow
Gauld is a very talented and promising young attacking midfielder, and although he would have been a decent signing for Rangers, Liverpool, Tottenham or Arsenal, they should not be too bothered about missing him out.
Although the youngster was superb when he was at Dundee United – who were paid £3 million as transfer fees for him when Sporting signed him in the summer of 2014, according to BBC Sport – his progress at the Portuguese club has not been great.
