Leeds United are set to complete the signing of Club Brugge defender Laurens De Bock as manager Thomas Christiansen seeks to strengthen his squad.

As reported by Sky Sports, De Bock, whose playing time has been limited this season, is set to undergo a medical at Leeds ahead of securing a switch to Elland Road.

It remains to be seen whether De Bock will go straight into the Leeds starting lineup but his arrival could certainly have negative consequences for Gaetano Berardi, who has been the club’s regular left-back this season.

Berardi scored the first goal of his senior career when he found the net in the FA Cup defeat to Newport County last weekend, while he has produced some encouraging performances at times this season.

However, the 29-year-old’s place in the side is now set to be placed under serious threat and could eventually lead to him having to leave the club.

Berardi is also capable of playing at right-back, but Luke Ayling is firmly established as Leeds’ first-choice option in that position.

It seems that Berardi now faces a major battle to retain his place in the starting lineup as De Bock seeks to quickly become an important player for Leeds.
