West Ham United fans have been left disappointed by claims that they may not sign a striker after all this summer.
David Ornstein of the Athletic says that if West Ham do manage to land Jesse Lingard in the coming days, then a new number nine may not be purchased.
West Ham have been lining up a deal for Lingard for some time now, with David Moyes keen to bring him on loan from Manchester United.
But, as exciting as that transfer would be, if West Ham do not find a striker this month then it could be a huge worry.
And the claims that the Hammers are thinking of ending the season without buying a replacement for Sebastien Haller is now causing real concern.
West Ham do have Michail Antonio who can lead their line currently, but beyond that their options look thin.
The worry for West Ham is that Antonio’s fitness record is not the most reliable, and if they had him as their only option up-front for the rest of the campaign then it would be a big risk.
West Ham are really pushing to claim a European spot this term, and capturing a striker this month could be crucial to their hopes of breaking into the top six.
