Do Tottenham Hotspur deserve Harry Kane? Probably not, but he seems content to keep scoring goals for them nonetheless.
Earlier this week The Sun reported that Spurs had made it ‘almost impossible’ for Kane to leave this summer and that the player himself had accepted that he might have to stay.
But it’s games like that on Sunday which may make it a very bitter pill for the 27-year-old to swallow.
Kane, who is yet to win a trophy in his senior career, was in red-hot form by scoring two goals away to Newcastle United.
Thing is, Jose Mourinho’s side were shambolic at the other end of the pitch and a late Joe Willock goal saw the Lilywhites return to North London with only one point when it should’ve been three.
Kane’s second was a particular crisp finish, firing home from a difficult angle.
The England international is lethal in a variety of ways, which goes to show just how complete he really is, but his finishing is simply frightening and former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson told Sky Sports that his clinical nature in front of goal stems from a countless amount of hours on the training ground at Hotspur Way.
He said: “He works on that day in day out. Practice and practice. He works on it and he gets his reward. Very fortunate with the first one but clinical with the second.”
If the report from midweek is true and Kane really has settled for this, it’s quite a sad state of affairs, given how proficient he is at scoring goals and even some fans of the North Londoners might agree that their club doesn’t deserve him, particularly after days like that.
