Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez has impressed this season.

Whilst Toby Alderweireld’s Tottenham Hotspur future remains a huge talking point, it’s fair to say that the blow of his departure would be softened by the presence of Davinson Sanchez.

Alderweireld, 29, looks set for a summer move away from Spurs due to a stand-off over his contract situation, and Tottenham may choose to cash in on the Belgian defender.

The centre back would be a major departure for Spurs, but recent displays from Sanchez have kept Alderweireld on the bench even now he is back to full fitness.

A £42million signing from Ajax last summer (The Guardian), Sanchez was raw and inexperienced when he joined Spurs, but he has blossomed under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.

The Colombian international, 21, has missed just six Premier League games this season, and turned in another outstanding performance in Sunday’s 3-1 away win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Sanchez’s impressive pace alongside Jan Vertonghen has made them a formidable partnership even without Alderweireld’s presence in the back line, and his impressive displays have been recognised by one of the Premier League’s best.

As posted by BT Sport’s Des Kelly, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne named Sanchez as his Young Player of the Year, edging out a host of top young Premier League players to De Bruyne’s nomination.

The Belgian’s opinion sums up what has been a superb season for Sanchez, and Tottenham fans will be hoping to see the youngster blossom into one of the world’s top defenders over the coming years.
