Davinson Sanchez offers his verdict on Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has earned quite the reputation at Ibrox.

Davinson Sanchez has told The Scottish Sun that he doesn’t know whether Alfredo Morelos will leave Rangers – but predicts that his mentality will ‘improve a lot’.

The Gers swooped to land Morelos from HJK Helsinki in 2017, and whilst he’d smashed in goals in Finland, it was unclear just how well he’d fare in Scotland.

It’s fair to say that the move has been a roaring success. Morelos has smashed 47 goals in 87 games for Rangers, including 29 in 44 under Steven Gerrard.

Whilst the 22-year-old is clearly impressive in front of goal, his shocking disciplinary record may mean that the clubs interested in signing him have to think twice about splashing big money on the Colombian.

Morelos somehow racked up five red cards this season, as well as 18 yellows, with many of them for off-the-ball antics and retaliations having been wound up.

That simply can’t last, and international teammate Sanchez has taken time out from preparing for Saturday’s Champions League final in order to offer his verdict on Morelos.

Sanchez admitted that he thinks Morelos is a ‘good guy’, praising the player he’s known since Under-15 days in Colombia, predicting that his mentality will ‘improve a lot’ over time.

The Spurs centre back added that he doesn’t know anything about Morelos’s immediate future and whether he’ll leave Rangers, but thinks he can play at a top level if he continues to improve and ultimately learn from his mistakes.

“Alfredo is a good guy. He is doing really well and he scored a lot of goals last season,” said Sanchez. “We are friends. We played a lot of games together from a young age. We played from under-15 to under-20, right through to the main squad. He’s only human and it can be that he makes mistakes, but the most important thing is that he can improve on this. Can he reach the top level? Yeah, yeah, everyone can.”

“When you are playing, you have to be ready to go to the best and reach your level. I don’t know if he will change for another club, but it’s also a case that he can score more and more goals and become better than he is right now for his current club. His mentality is going to improve a lot. I will say all the things that have happened in his life are going to be important for him to improve,” he added.
