Steve Bruce quit as Hull City boss during the summer.
Hull’s Curtis Davies in action
Hull City defender Curtis Davies says it was a big shock to see Steve Bruce walk out of the club considering the conversation they had a day prior to his exit, Sky Sports report.
Bruce controversially walked out on Hull in the summer after guiding the club to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs last term.
The former Sunderland boss seemingly left the KC Stadium as a result of the club’s lack of transfer activity and disagreements at boardroom level, and to many it did not come as a great surprise.

Davies, however, admits he was shocked to hear of Bruce’s exit as only a day prior to his resignation the duo had a conversation where Bruce told his skipper how he was going to try his best to get more players in.
“It was a shock, I wasn’t actually there the day that the manager left. The day before the manager actually pulled me aside and told me to rally the troops and make sure they knew he was going to try his best to get players in,” Sky Sports report.

Bruce’s exit left the club in apparent turmoil, and with only a handful of fit players available to caretaker boss Mike Phelan many had already tipped the Tigers for an immediate return to the second tier.
However, the East Yorkshire side have pulled together and so far dumbfounded the critics by picking up two wins from three Premier League matches, beating Leicester City 2-1 and Swansea City 2-0.
With the likes of Will Keane, Ryan Mason, David Marshall, Markus Henriksen and James Weir all arriving before the transfer deadline, there is now an air of optimism around the KC Stadium.
