Everton looked a different side when the youngster came on.
For the first hour of Everton’s clash with Swansea City it looked as though the Toffees could falter after their recent resurgence, yet the introduction of Tom Davies changed everything, with the youngster showing the drive and forward thrust to get the best out of the players around him.
As good as Morgan Schneiderlin was against Newcastle United earlier this month, the Frenchman could not replicate that form against the Swans and it was only when he was replaced by Davies that Everton suddenly found their feet.
Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Idrissa Gueye all played better once Davies was on the field and it is hard to imagine the 19-year-old being overlooked for the upcoming clash with Chelsea after that performance.
He may still be a teenager, and he may have been in and out of the starting XI depending on who was in charge of team selection this season but Davies is a class act and there is no doubt he improves this Everton side.
If his inclusion helps get the best out of players that can make a real difference in the final third for the Toffees, his selection should be a no-brainer.
Everton are now in the top half of the table, which seemed unthinkable a few short weeks ago. Now they have a realistic chance of getting one over the reigning champions on Saturday, and that speaks volumes for how far they have come under new boss Sam Allardyce.
