One of Mark Warburton’s summer signings enjoyed their best day since joining Glasgow Rangers at the weekend.

Rangers assistant boss Davie Weir has outlined just how hard Niko Kranjcar has been working on the training ground in a bid to recover from his difficult start to life at Ibrox, The Scottish Sun reports.

Big things were expected of the 32-year-old when he arrived in the summer, given his huge amount of Premier League experience.

However, the first few weeks of his spell with the Gers was perhaps best summed up when he was replaced after just 45 minutes against Celtic even though Mark Warburton’s men had given themselves a chance going into the break when Joe Garner made the score 2-1.

But there are signs that suggest that his woes may be coming to an end as he put in his best display for the Light Blues during their 2-0 win over Partick, in a game which saw the former Croatia international open the scoring.

And Weir has explained that Kranjcar is now reaping the rewards for the amount of work he has been putting in at Murray Park.

“It’s up to us to get him back to that level of fitness and that level of consistency. He showed today and he has done in flashes throughout the season the level he has. Our job is to get him to that stage,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“You saw today he’s more than capable of doing it. It’s about trying to maximise that.

“He’s working so hard. He trains hard every day, he does extras every day. He’s very conscientious in his work and he’s dedicated to what he’s doing.

“It’s hard to put a timescale on it, but you can only praise his application and his desire for doing it.”

Warburton will be hoping that the international break does little to halt the momentum that Kranjcar is starting to build.

After their trip to Inverness, the Gers face Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, and given how he played in the first Old Firm meeting of the season, Kranjcar will be desperate to prove himself by inspiring his side to the final.
