Davie Provan thinks Brendan Rodgers could leave Celtic if top players are sold.

Pundit and former Celtic winger Davie Provan has told The Scottish Herald that he thinks Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers could become frustrated with the club if Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele are sold.

Celtic continued their remarkable league campaign on Sunday afternoon with a 5-2 win over St Johnstone, meaning they have still only dropped two league points this season.

Brendan Rodgers is coasting towards the league title in his first season as Celtic manager, which would be the Bhoys’ sixth title in a row.

Currently 27 points clear of Aberdeen and Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership, it has been a dream campaign for Celtic, and manager Rodgers deserves much of the credit for it.

The only concern for supporters is that Rodgers’ exceptional record in Glasgow could trigger Premier League interest, given how his time in English football came to an end.

Less than 18 months after missing out on the Premier League title with Liverpool, Rodgers was sacked by the Reds, and Celtic have given him a platform to rebuild his managerial career.

Rodgers’ immediate future with the Bhoys doesn’t appear to be in any danger, but pundit and former Celtic ace Davie Provan has noted that a future move to England could be on the cards.

Provan has told The Scottish Herald that he thinks Rodgers could become frustrated if top young players like Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele are sold to Premier League clubs, as it would make it difficult for him to really take Celtic forward – and having sold Fraser Forster, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk to the Premier League in recent years, there’s every chance that Celtic will lose more players to English football, and too many exits could lead Rodgers back to the Premier League in Provan’s opinion.

“He’s still young enough to take his time and I hope he stays in Scotland for the foreseeable future,” said Provan. “But the way he’s going, the way he’s improving the team, he will get offers. That’s inevitable. Peter Lawwell will know that. He’ll want another go at England because he clearly wouldn’t have been happy with how it ended at Liverpool.”

“It would be difficult if Celtic got a daft offer for (Moussa) Dembele and the player wanted to go. In those circumstances, you can’t keep him. If they were to get a daft offer for him or a daft offer for Kieran Tierney then very often it is up to the player.”

“That would be the difficulty that Brendan would have – trying to build a team and keep his best players because some players would see Scottish football as the bridge towards the Premier League,” he added.
