Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty has done a great job since returning to the Ibrox hot-seat.

Murty’s stock has risen significantly since he was given the chance to take charge of the Gers first-team in the wake of Pedro Caixinha’s departure back in October, taking the Light Blues up to second in the Scottish Premiership and overseeing only their second draw against Celtic since their return to the top flight. He, of course, also oversaw their only other positive result against the Hoops since the start of the 2016/17 season.

There is a positivity about Rangers right now that has arguably not been there for a while, with the club’s performances and results on the pitch bringing them success and their signings off it proving to provide a decent combination of shrewd business and deals that capture the imagination.
And Provan has suggested that those who backed Murty all along are entitled to feel fairly smug, and that the board simply have to consider the Englishman when his deal as head coach expires in the summer.

“Since then, Murty has completed a hat-trick of wins over Aberdeen, emerged from Celtic Park with a draw and signed a raft of new players.
“With Rangers now favourites to finish second in the SPFL, Murty’s ability to get Dave King out of a hole should have him in the box seat when Gers make a long-term appointment.
“Either way, his contribution should now be reflected in his wage packet.”
While Rangers seem to be in a good position right now, it will certainly count for absolutely nothing if they do not capitalise on their current momentum and secure second and perhaps even close the gap slightly to Celtic.
With a number of new faces through the door, Murty now has many of the tools he needs to prove that he is the right man for the long-term vision at Ibrox. At the moment, he is coming through his audition very nicely, but there is still a long way to go.
