The Celtic legend believes the Hoops’ defensive recruits have been playing well.
Signed by Neil Lennon during the summer transfer window, the duo had a fair difficult slow to life at Celtic as they adjusted and worked their way into the first-team.
The manager controversially left them out of a crucial UEFA Champions League qualifier, leaving some questioning their roles at the club despite barely getting a chance.
Hay though has suggested their recent performances are encouraging, especially in the 2-0 derby win over Rangers at Ibrox.
As quoted by The Evening Times, he said: “I want to save special praise for Boli Bolingoli and Christopher Jullien though, who have come in for some criticism since arriving in Glasgow.
“Jullien was absolutely outstanding at the heart of the defence, and looked every inch the £7m player that he is.
“Bolingoli also turned in an accomplished performance, and I am delighted for him after his rocky start at Celtic.”
Set to become Celtic mainstays?
Although both performed to the required standard at Ibrox, it’s important to remember there is still a long way to go before definitive judgements can be made on either.
Bolingoli has become something of a cult hero in the aftermath of the derby and while that’s likely a confidence boost for the Belgian, he still has to prove he can keep Greg Taylor out of the team.
Jullien’s position in the heart of the defence looks a lot more secure. His physical attributes and communication skills are clear to see.
There’s every chance he becomes one of the leaders in the Hoops dressing room.
Hay is right to pick them out as notable in form talents. Now it’s on them to prove they can do it on a consistent basis.
