Ian Wright and Paul Scholes have criticised Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea on Premier League Productions for the goal that he conceded against Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe at Old Trafford.

Smith Rowe scored for Arsenal in the 13th minute of the Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils eventually won the match 3-2.

When Smith Rowe’s goal went in, United goalkeeper De Ges was on the ground injured.

The injury was caused by United midfielder Fred.

Verdict on Emile Smith Rowe goal v David de Gea

Arsenal legend Wright has criticised De Gea, who earns £375,000 (Spotrac), and so has United great Paul Scholes.

Wright said on Premier League Productions: “When you see David de Gea afterwards, when they give the goal, he is so incensed, he goes after the referee.

“My problem with that there is not enough seriously wrong with him to be down like he is there.”

Scholes said: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with David. He should be there protecting his goal.”

The former United midfielder added: “It’s embarrassing, it’s embarrassing.”

Arsenal goal rightly allowed

In our opinion, there was nothing wrong with the decision to allow Smith Rowe’s goal against United.

Yes, the Spain international goalkeeper was down on the ground injured, but it was caused by one of his own teammates.

Moreover, it was not a head injury.

And, you could even argue that Smith Rowe simply did not have enough time to react and did not actually realise that De Gea was injured.
