Celtic visit the Gibraltar-based side on Tuesday for a Champions League first leg.
Former Gibraltar assistant manager David Wilson has told BBC Sport that Lincoln Red Imps can indeed cause Celtic problems in their upcoming Champions League qualification tie, but still expects the Hoops to triumph.
The Scottish champions visit the Gibraltar minnows in the first leg of their second-round qualifier on Tuesday.
The Red Imps were not expected to get past Flora Tallin, but Julio César Ribas’s side overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit to beat the Estonian outfit 2-0 and book a date with Brendan Rodgers and co this month.
Celtic will be overwhelming favourites to reach the third preliminary round, but the 42-year-old believes that the underdogs should not be written off out of hand.
“I think they can give Celtic a few problems,” Wilson, who spent two years as the national team’s assistant coach, told BBC Sport. “But, as the game goes on, you would expect Celtic to take control.”
Tuesday’s first leg will mark Brendan Rodgers’s first competitive outing in charge of the Hoops, who named him as Ronny Deila’s successor this summer.
Deila won two Scottish Premiership titles in his two years in charge, but a failure to qualify the club for the Champions League proper arguably cost him his job.
It is far too early to suggest whether Rodgers can better the Norwegian in this department, but two good results against the Red Imps would boost the mood in the camp.
