Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been a key player for Steven Gerrard this season.

Rangers legend David Weir has simply stated that if Alfredo Morelos continues in his ways of getting sent off then there is ‘a problem’ as he urged him to use his passion in the ‘right way’.

The 22-year-old has seen red on four occasions this season, which has proven to be very costly for his team because he is one of their main players as they chase the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup.

Morelos’ main problems have come against rivals Aberdeen because he has been given his marching orders everytime he plays against the Dons this term.

Former Premiership defender Weir spoke about playing with passion and emotion but stated in a clear manner that Morelos must use his in a better manner going forward.

“We all get emotionally involved and react but if you are continuously doing the same thing then there’s a problem,” said Weir, as quoted by the Daily Record. “We’ve all had it where the red mist comes down. When you look back in the cold light of day you think, ‘I shouldn’t have done that’.

“There has to be emotion and passion involved. There’s a fine line between getting a red card and being successful. The best players play on the edge.

“Hopefully, Alfredo, who is still a young man, will learn how to use that passion in the right way rather than missing football games Missing games is the biggest punishment and he has missed a lot of games already.”

There is no doubt that since Gerrard’s arrival last summer, Morelos has been his go-to guy and the player that has delivered the goods for him on a regular basis.

Over the course of the season, Morelos has played 39 games in all competitions for the Gers, scoring an impressive 27 goals and supplying his teammates with 10 assists [transfermarkt].

Rangers will be hoping to lift some silverware during this campaign, with it looking less likely that they will win the Premiership title, but winning the Scottish Cup could potentially happen.

After their league clash against Dundee on Wednesday night, Gerrard and his team will play the Dons at the weekend in their rivals back yard, with Morelos sure to be a target on the day.
