Rangers assistant manager David Weir has told the club’s official website it is important they do not underestimate the quality that Andy Halliday possesses.
The midfielder has been in fine form for the Gers of late, putting in a series of impressive performances despite their relatively poor form.
He was key to them returning to winning ways over the weekend as he scored in his side’s 2-0 win over Partick Thistle.

It was his third goal in as many games, despite the fact he has found himself playing in a deeper, holding midfield role of late.
Weir has certainly been impressed, telling the club’s official website that it is important that people do not forget the quality he possesses.
“Andy obviously brings a lot to the team with his enthusiasm and his energy but he has also got a lot of quality. It’s important we don’t underestimate that,” he said.
“He’s a very important player for us in that position. Ultimately that’s not his job [to get goals] but it’s a nice thing to add to your game. “

It will be interesting to see if Halliday’s success in the defensive midfield role has any effect on the future of Joey Barton.
The suspended midfielder was the only defensive midfield player in the squad and it was that factor which could have ensured he had a future at the club.
However, with Halliday proving a capable replacement in the role perhaps that will play a role in the decision they end up taking on Barton.
