Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham may get his chance for the Ibrox side in the coming weeks.

David Weir has told the Daily Record that Wes Foderingham is good enough to give Rangers boss Steven Gerrard a selection headache if Allan McGregor is handed a two-match ban – with the former Gers defender suggesting that the goalkeeper can take encouragement from one Celtic player.
Foderingham had spent most of his time at Ibrox as number one, but McGregor’s return in the summer has forced the Englishman to assume the role of understudy.
However, there is a chance that Foderingham may soon get a decent opportunity. The Daily Record reports that McGregor is facing a hearing over an incident involving Lewis Ferguson in the recent win over Aberdeen, and the veteran has already rejected a two-match ban.
Should McGregor be reprimanded, Rangers would be losing one of their most impressive players from this season. But Weir is confident that Foderingham is capable of putting pressure on his teammate if given the chance, and pointed out how Scott Bain has taken the number one spot from Craig Gordon at Celtic in recent times.

“If he does end up facing a ban, then Wes will be a very safe pair of hands to bring in,” he told the Daily Record.
“Just look at the competition on the other side of the city between Craig Gordon and Scott Bain who has taken his opportunity at Celtic.
“Wes will see this as his chance now because he’s waited long enough for it. It’s up to him to grasp it with both hands and he’s more than capable of doing that and giving the manager a bit of a headache.”

Foderingham arguably has a tougher task than Bain had at Parkhead. On his day, Gordon could be exceptional. He was the main reason that Rangers only won 1-0 when the two sides met at Ibrox in December.
But the Hoops stopper has also arguably been less reliable than McGregor has been for Rangers this term. That allowed Bain to force his way into Brendan Rodgers’ plans and, more importantly, stay there.
And there is surely no question that Foderingham will have a much tougher task if he hopes to throw the previous pecking order out of the window if he does get his chance in the coming weeks.
