Rangers assistant David Weir has hinted that the club may not make any more signings this month.

Rangers assistant manager David Weir has told Sky Sports that the club are ‘relatively happy’ with the January business they have already done.

With the Gers sitting 19 points behind league leaders Celtic, the focus is now on finishing second – and in order to fend off the likes of Aberdeen and Hearts, manager Mark Warburton clearly felt that Rangers needed a couple of additions.

After a number of blows in midfield – including Joey Barton’s contract being terminated and Niko Kranjcar suffering a season-ending injury – Warburton has swooped to land two midfielders in Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman.

Spaniard Toral, 21, worked with Warburton at Brentford during the 2014-15 season, notching six goals and two assists, and joins Rangers on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season having cut short his spell with Granada.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old American Hyndman also joins Rangers on loan until the end of the season having started just one competitive game for Bournemouth since a summer move from Fulham.

Both players should give Warburton depth in midfield, and played a part in the 4-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Bundesliga side RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers fans may want more signings to arrive before the end of the January transfer window, but assistant manager David Weir has today told Sky Sports that the Gers are currently happy with what they’ve got.

Weir suggested that Hyndman and Toral were their top targets, and raved about both players in terms of how they will fit into Warburton’s system at Ibrox for the rest of the campaign.

“Jon and Emerson were the main targets,” said Weir. “We tried to do that relatively quickly, which we have done. As it stands, we are relatively happy. They are both very talented footballers and we are lucky to have them here. We are fortunate their clubs have trusted us to take them and aid their development.”

“Jon is creative, he is a goalscorer, fundamentally he is a good footballer. He will adjust to the style we play. He has played in our style before. He has been successful in the English Championship, he has played abroad, he is an Arsenal player still and will be for the future.”

“Eddie Howe is very good trusting us with Emerson. He is very talented, went for a lot of money in the summer, and he has come because the style we play is similar to the style Bournemouth play. That’s a massive advantage,” he added.
