Tottenham Hotspur are again being linked with Southampton’s Mario Lemina.

Former Tottenham Hotspur scout David Webb has told Sky Sports that he thinks Southampton’s Mario Lemina is a good example of a box-to-box midfielder – and the report claims Spurs are considering him.

Lemina, 24, came up through the ranks with Lorient having joined the French club at the age of just 11, and after just 18 appearances there, he earned a big move to Marseille.

Again, Lemina didn’t need to play a ton of games in order to impress, as just 50 appearances for Marseille saw him earn a switch to Juventus in 2015, where he struggled for playing time.

Southampton swooped last summer, paying a then-club-record fee of £16million rising to £20million (Sky Sports) to land the Gabon international, and it was a fairly mixed season for Lemina.

The midfielder had his moments of real quality, but he started only 20 Premier League games, and needs to kick on in order to realise his potential having made a number of moves already in his short career.

Now though, Sky Sports claim that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move for Lemina, with Spurs in the market for a Mousa Dembele successor this summer.

Any midfielder arriving to replace Dembele needs to not only match his superb strength, but also his technical ability on the ball, being able to drive through the middle of the park.

Now, former Spurs scout David Webb has assessed a host of box-to-box midfielders for Sky Sports, and suggested that Lemina is a great example given his physical and technical ability, and he may well see Spurs move for the Southampton ace this summer if reports are to be believed.

“There are other players out there; players like Mario Lemina at Southampton, who is a good example in terms of that physical profile,” said Webb. “He is quite technically accomplished as well. He isn’t blessed with lots of pace but offers that physical presence. He can win the ball and drive with it,” he added.
