Everton beat Newcastle United in the Premier League Cup final on Wednesday night.

Everton Under-23 boss David Unsworth has told the club’s official website that he thought Josh Bowler turned in a ‘top performance’ against Newcastle United last night.
The Toffees had already secured the Premier League 2 title just weeks ago, and were hoping to secure a double on Wednesday night by winning the Premier League Cup.
Newcastle made the trip to Goodison Park for the final, but it was Everton who claimed the win as captain Morgan Feeney grabbed the only goal of the game.
This group of Everton youngsters will now be hoping to push on for first-team football in the coming years, having clinched two pieces of silverware this season.
Midfielder Bowler is one of those players, as he’s yet to make a first-team appearance for Everton since arriving form Queens Park Rangers two years ago.
Steve Walsh raided QPR to land the 20-year-old, but Marco Silva hasn’t yet called on the youngster, instead leaving him in the Under-23’s to develop under Unsworth.

Bowler ran the show for Everton last night, and Unsworth has now suggested that Bowler’s performance was ‘top’, and believes he has become a top player over the last three or four months.
“That was a top performance from Josh,” said Unsworth. “The way he’s performed in the past three, four months… He’s just a top player,” he added.
Bowler is surely pushing for first-team recognition now, and a place in Silva’s squad for pre-season wouldn’t be a huge surprise, with Unsworth’s praise clear for all to see.
