Everton Under-23 coach David Unsworth has told the club’s official website that he had to speak to striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin at half time in Sunday’s game against Manchester City.
Whilst Everton’s first team played out a 1-1 draw with Swansea City thanks to Seamus Coleman’s last-gasp equaliser, Sunday saw the club’s Under-23’s in action against Manchester City.
David Unsworth’s youngsters had the chance to return to the top of Premier League 2, and they did just that as they grabbed a 1-0 victory at Southport’s Haig Avenue.
It was striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who grabbed the only goal of the game, hitting a 67th minute volley to hand the young Toffees the win, and top spot in Premier League 2.

Calvert-Lewin, 19, joined Everton from Sheffield United on deadline day, and having been viewed as one for the future, the striker has spent most of his time in the Under-23’s, but was on the bench for the first team against West Ham last month.
An England Under-20 international, Calvert-Lewin looks to have a bright career ahead of him, and his performances for Everton’s Under-23’s have seen him earn praise already this season.
Now, having scored again in Sunday’s match with City, Under-23 coach Unsworth has told the club’s official website that he thought Calvert-Lewin’s goal was ‘great’, and he has that kind of quality in the locker.

However, Unsworth added that he felt Calvert-Lewin endured a difficult first half, and spoke to him at half time in order to play in a different way.
“It was a great goal from Dominic – a great volley and great technique,” said Unsworth. “We know he’s got that in his locker. He had a difficult first half and we spoke to him at half-time and asked him to play in a slightly different way,” he added.
