David Unsworth offers Everton’s next boss transfer advice… and has a big warning for him

Everton are believed to be closing in on making a new managerial appointment.

David Unsworth has said that whoever takes charge at Everton will not find a quick fix waiting for them, at his latest press conference, which was broadcast on the club’s official Facebook page.

Unsworth is expected to be in charge of Everton’s next match against West Ham United tomorrow, before he is replaced by the Toffees’ next permanent manager.

Sam Allardyce is currently the favourite to land the Everton job, but Portuguese newspaper O’Jogo have suggested that Paulo Fonseca is close to taking over at Goodison Park.

And Unsworth has warned that there is no quick fix for Everton’s problems, regardless of who takes over.

The Toffees are currently in 16th place in the Premier League table, and the caretaker boss feels that they will need to bring in proven Premier League players in January, to get out of trouble.

“I don’t think there’s a quick fix in football. There’s been fundamental problems on the pitch. We need our best players fit, quickly,” Unsworth said.

“I think we need some proven Premier League recruitment in January, in early January. We need to win a couple of games and get confidence flying again.

“I don’t think there’s a quick fix, whoever gets the job needs time and patience. They’ll get all of that from me.”

Unsworth has been in temporary charge of Everton for well over a month now, after replacing Ronald Koeman, but the Merseyside club’s form has arguably got worse rather than better.

Everton have won just once since Unsworth has taken over, with frustrations rising at Goodison Park.

If Everton can win against West Ham tomorrow it will be a major boost, as it could lift them up as high as 11th in the Premier League table.
