Everton have been extremely poor so far this season.
Toffees caretaker manager David Unsworth addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace today, and delivered a message to the club’s fans, telling them that his players are giving him absolutely everything, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Everton have endured a tremendously difficult campaign this season, both home and abroad, and currently sit in 16th position in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
The Blues players’ attitude and commitment has been questioned on more than on occasion this season by the club’s fans, but that is a notion that Unsworth fiercely refutes.
The 44-year-old spoke to the media after his side left Selhurst Park with a point, and insisted that his players have been terrific both during games and on the training pitch, as quoted by EvertonFC.com:
“The players have been terrific since the first training session when we came together. They’ve given me everything and I can tell the Everton fans that they’re giving me everything. They are working harder and I sense and see that there are improvements.”
Next up for Unsworth and Everton is their meaningless Europa League game at home to Atalanta on Thursday night, before they are back to domestic business with a trip to Southampton on the following Sunday.
And a pair of wins would do the 44-year-old’s chances of being made permanent manager at Goodison Park no harm at all.
