Glasgow Rangers are reportedly set to appoint Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as the new Ibrox manager, and former Celtic defender and current West Ham United manager David Moyes gives his take.
David Thompson has claimed on social networking site Twitter that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will win the treble with Rangers next season.
According to Sky Sports, former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard has agreed to become the new Rangers manager.
It has been reported that the former England international midfielder will sign a three-year contract with the Gers.
Former Liverpool midfielder Thompson played with Gerrard at Anfield, and the 40-year-old has backed the ex-Los Angeles Galaxy star to guide Rangers to the treble next season.
Bold claim
Gerrard is one of the greatest players in Premier League history, and he could become an equally great manager in the coming years.
However, it is too early and too bold a claim to state that Rangers will win the domestic treble under the former England international next season.
Celtic have the best squad in Scotland, and even if Rangers sign new players in the summer transfer window, the Hoops will remain the team to beat in the Scottish Premiership.
What Rangers should expect from Gerrard is to give Brendan Rodgers’s side a strong challenge for the Scottish Premiership.
Meanwhile, West Ham United manager and former Celtic central defender David Moyes has given his take on Gerrard to Rangers speculation.
Moyes told Football.London: “He’s a good guy, Steven. He will take it on and he is joining a great football club. Why would he not take it on? It’s very hard.
“It doesn’t matter how good a player you have been in the past, that does not prepare you for management, the experience of being in the situation.
“It’ll give Steven a great chance because there is a lot of pressure which comes with managing Glasgow Rangers.”
