West Ham United vice-chairman David Sullivan says current Everton boss Sam Allardyce did not sign Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku when he was at Chelsea.

Sam Allardyce looks on from the stand during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

West Ham United vice-chairman David Sullivan has revealed to The Guardian that the club could have signed Romelu Lukaku when Sam Allardyce was in charge.

Sullivan has revealed that Lukaku was available for £10 million when the Belgium international striker was at Chelsea, but Allardyce, who is now the manager of Premier League rivals Everton, did not want him at that price.

“I asked Sam if he fancied Lukaku,” Sullivan told The Guardian. “Sam said he’d take him on loan but he wouldn’t buy him for that. Again I’ve supported the manager.”

Lukaku failed to make an impact at Chelsea, but the 24-year-old is now at Manchester United, having been hugely successful during his time at West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

West Ham United owners David Sullivan and David Gold look on prior to the Premier League match between Burnley and West Ham United at Turf Moor on May 21, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Everton paid Chelsea as much as £28 million in the summer of 2014 to sign the Belgian striker, as reported by BBC Sport, and sold him to United in the summer of 2017 for an initial £75m, according to BBC Sport.

West Ham could have made a similar huge profit had they signed Lukaku for just £10m.

Interestingly, Allardyce is now in charge of Everton, having recently been appointed the Merseyside club’s manager following the departure of Ronald Koeman from Goodison Park.
