West Ham United have snapped up striker Javier Hernandez.

West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has told the club’s official website that he is ‘delighted’ to have secured the signature of striker Javier Hernandez.

Having landed defender Pablo Zabaleta on a free transfer early in the transfer window, West Ham have pressed ahead with more additions, and have been busy in the last week.

Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart joined the club on a season-long loan deal, before the Hammers broke their transfer record over the weekend in order to sign forward Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City.

Now though, West Ham have completed arguably their most exciting addition of the summer so far, as they have tied up a deal to sign Mexican international striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 29-year-old has penned a three-year deal at the London Stadium, with West Ham finally landing a striker with a proven track record of goals – a far cry from signing the likes of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri last summer.

Hernandez will be best known for his time at Manchester United, where he scored 59 goals in 157 games, whilst he also notched nine goals in 33 appearances during a loan spell with Real Madrid during the 2014/15 season.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Hernandez has hit 39 goals in 76 games, and his movement, finishing ability and predatory instincts mean he may well be the striker that West Ham fans have been waiting for.

Now, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan has reacted to the deal, telling the club’s official website that he is delighted to see Hernandez sign on the dotted line for West Ham, and can’t wait to see him scoring goals for the club.

“We are delighted to welcome Javier as the latest fantastic addition to the West Ham United squad,” said Sullivan. “Following the arrivals of Pablo Zabaleta, Joe Hart and Marko Arnautovic, he is another top class professional who brings great experience and quality to the Club.”

“He has a proven goalscoring record in the Premier League, La Liga and the Bundesliga, as well in the UEFA Champions League and at international level with Mexico. We now have some fantastic options in attacking positions and, like all West Ham fans, I am looking forward to seeing Javier score goals in a claret and blue shirt next season,” he added.
