David Silva has poked fun at Manchester United after helping his Real Sociedad side secure a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday night – by posting a Tweet that Manchester City fans will love.

Silva, 36, is in his third season at Sociedad, after leaving Manchester City for the La Liga club in 2020. It comes after a decade at Manchester City in which he clocked up 436 appearances, scored 77 goals and created 140.

With four Premier League titles to his name, Silva is without doubt a Manchester City legend. On Thursday night he returned to Manchester, to face his old club’s arch enemies. Sociedad secured a priceless 1-0 victory.

Silva was in the thick of the action. It was his shot that won Sociedad the penalty, blcoked by Martinez’s leg – the ball bouncing up into his arm. An incredibly harsh decision on Martinez and United, but Sociedad profited.

Brais Mendez took the spot-kick and scored. Sociedad held on to a 1-0 win away at United, a huge result for a club that David Moyes once managed. Silva took to Twitter. He posted “Once Again”, with a blue heart, tagging City.

Silva reminded all that age is just a number on Thursday night. While he did not complete the entire 90 minutes, he is the perfect example of footballing brawn and intelligence being more important than the physical aspect.

Silva can stroll around the field of play without exerting huge amounts of energy, because he knows where to run. He is an efficient footballer. Judging on this showing, he has a couple more years in him at this level.

A huge win for Sociedad in their bid to qualify from the group. They now have the chance to do that as winners of the group. Another re-think required for Erik ten Hag, who started Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.
