Pep Guardiola is reportedly preparing to shift Phil Foden into a central midfield role following the youngster’s return from injury.
According to the Telegraph, the Manchester City manager has been using Foden in midfield during training sessions this season. The 21-year-old star played the majority of minutes last campaign out on the left wing.
However, with the £100m arrival of Jack Grealish this summer, Guardiola has seemingly made the decision to adapt Foden’s game to a more central and deeper role.
Moreover, the attacker came on last night against RB Leipzig as a central midfielder, with Foden replacing Kevin De Bruyne in the midfield against RB Leipzig. City won the match 6-3.
Foden started off his youth career with City in midfield, with the youngster making a name for himself as an attacking midfielder. However, most of his time in the senior team has been spent out on the wing, as well as for England.
Indeed, it is an interesting decision from Guardiola, who could be making the decision as to spread out the squad depth in the team. And on social media, City fans were in agreement over the plan for Foden.

The England star has the qualities to excel in the position. And alongside the likes of Rodri and Ilkay Gundogen, Foden can add something different to the City midfield.
Here’s what some City fans had to say on Twitter about Guardiola’s new plan for Foden…
