David Seaman says he ‘wasn’t fully happy’ with Ruben Dias’ possible red card challenge on Ben White as Manchester City saw off their Premier League title rivals Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Many were expecting a hard-hitting, thunderous and all-action affair, in the end, it was Manchester City proving to be the dominant side throughout the 90 minutes and the 4-1 scoreline flattening Arsenal, instead.

But, towards the end of the first half, Seaman questioned if Ruben Dias should have been sent off for his kick-out on the back of Ben White’s leg.

The duo were near the corner flag and in a bit of a tangle, with the Arsenal right-back going to ground after the flick out from the £65 million player (Sky Sports) and both teams then getting involved in a few handbags.

In truth, despite the gulf in class on the field of play, which Paul Merson alluded to, there was a lot of pushing and shoving during the match.

With his Arsenal hat on, Seaman felt that Dias’ challenge was a ‘soft red’, whilst former England striker Michael Owen called it ‘petulance’, as he told Premier League Productions (26/04/23 at 9:00 pm).

“Not fully happy,” said Seaman. “It’s a soft red card, if I am honest. He (Ruben Dias) doesn’t give him a really good hit, but he flicks out with his studs.

“I saw my old England captain (David Beckham v Argentina) get sent off for something like that.”

Owen added: “Petulance, I would call it. And that’s a yellow card.”

EVENTFUL EVENING FOR WHITE

Given that Man City dominated the first and second half, then that flick out from Dias wasn’t much of a talking point.

Nonetheless, it was still an eventful evening for White, especially after the full-time whistle – footage at the full-time whistle showed White and his England teammate, Phil Foden, clashing with one another.

There were many moments like that during the game, as this title battle, which should now head to the Etihad once more, had some heat to it, unlike the so-called friendly rivalry between Liverpool and Man City.
