Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Arsenal legend David Seaman has been speaking about Patrick Bamford after his England debut.
Bamford finally got the chance to play for his country earlier this week, getting a start against Andorra on Sunday, and while it must have been a proud moment, Seaman says there must have been an element of disappointment for the Leeds ace.
What’s been said?
Seaman says it was great to see Bamford playing for his country, but he says the striker must have been a bit gutted when Harry Kane found the back of the net immediately after coming off the bench.
“It was great to see Bamford playing, he’s been knocking on that door for a long time, but he must have been a bit disappointed when as soon as he went off his sub scored. Alright, his sub was Harry Kane, so that’s a bit different, but he had a couple of chances as well didn’t he? But it’s his first England cap, on his birthday, I’m sure it was a special day for him,” Seaman said.

The bar is set
As disappointing as it must’ve been for Bamford to see Kane convert that penalty just minutes after coming on, it acts as a stark reminder of the level he needs to reach in order to become a starter for England.
Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and if Bamford wants to work his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans, he needs to step up a gear or two.
Bamford has improved tremendously over the past two years, so there’s no reason why he can’t reach Kane’s level, but he’ll have to work incredibly hard if he’s going to do so.
