David Seaman laments Garry Monk walking out on Leeds United
David Seaman
Premier League legend David Seaman has expressed his frustration at Leeds United’s failure to keep hold of head coach Garry Monk.
Speaking to Made In Leeds, Seaman says he feels Leeds have lost serious momentum by having to start again.
Seaman was born in Yorkshire and began his career as a trainee at Leeds in 1981 before leaving for Peterborough and establishing himself as an Arsenal mainstay in 1990 and starring for England.
The retired goalkeeper summed up how many Leeds fans will currently be feeling after Monk’s shock resignation last week.
Gone… Leeds United manager Garry Monk
He said: “I was disappointed when Garry left, as I thought he was getting it going in the right direction.
“I’ve always been a Leeds fan. Its so frustrating. I know what its like, I was there as a kid at 16, I knew what its like I know how big the club is, I know how many fans they’ve got. It’s like ‘come on, lets get it back to there’.
“I thought we were really on the way there with Garry, but obviously somethings happened and he’s gone and now we’re in the market for a new manager.
“It seems to be one step forward and two steps back, its disappointing.”
Leeds United manager Garry Monk stunned fans by walking out
If there is a positive to be taken from the past year at Leeds, it is that fans really begun to believe under Garry Monk, and did not so in the same manner previously.
Under Monk there was genuine optimism that Leeds could reach the play-offs or even challenge for automatic promotion, even if a woeful end to the season led to the Whites missing out entirely.
Leeds’ next manager will have a task on his hands to encapsulate the same feel good factor, but Monk has left a club better prepared than the one he inherited.
